Finding cost-efficient delivery mechanisms that can reach poor people has been a significant challenge for MFIs. This case series highlights some creative approaches that MFIs have taken to simultaneously achieve both efficiency and outreach.

NEW!BPR VII Koto, Indonesia: BPR uses mobile deposit collectors mounted on motorcycles to expand their outreach in rural areas of Sumatra at a relatively low cost.

Caixa Economica Federal, Brazil: Caixa uses Point of Sale (POS) devices in lottery stands to expand its outreach without shouldering large infrastructure costs. In three years, Caixa has opened over one million savings accounts.

Small Enterprise Foundation (SEF), South Africa: SEF has partnered with postal banks and commercial banks in order to leverage an already-existing infrastructure. Through these partnerships, they are able to avoid high operational costs while still reaching out to a broad population.
