Social Performance Standards Report
2009, The MIX

Assessing social impact of MFIs across various indicators

This report collects information on the 22 core indicators selected by The Social Performance Task Force. It consists of six parts:

  • Social performance standards framework and description;
  • Part 1, comprising 13 indicators that focus on MFI mission, products and services, social responsibility and clients outreach;
  • Part 2, comprising six indicators that focus on employment outreach, social responsibility to community and to environment, and children's education;
  • Table for poverty measurement with three indicators on poverty levels;
  • Calculator for effective interest rate;
  • Glossary.

The indicators follow a specific framework that looks at the entire process by which social impact is created. The framework includes an analysis of:

  • Institutional intent;
  • Effectiveness of internal systems and activities in meeting institutional objectives;
  • Related outputs;
  • Institution's success in effecting positive changes in the lives of clients.

Finally, the glossary links those indicators which are most difficult to conceptualize and conform to a standard definition.
