What are impact assessment tools and when should they be used?

This review gives a broad overview of research methods that can be used for impact assessment, and a brief outline of each method or tool. It further provides a detailed annex of packages or systems of tools as applied to microfinance organizations.

The review aims to give an overview of the:

Objectives behind the tools;
Summary of the different components;
Some pointers as to the strengths and issues in their application.

The list covered is not exhaustive, but rather aims to give a sense of the range of approaches available. Links are given to specific documents or organizations should the reader wish to learn more about a specific tool or approach.
