M-CRIL
Micro-Credit Ratings and Guarantees India Ltd (M-CRIL) was the first microfinance rating agency to pioneer a social rating product in 2005. An M-CRIL social rating report assesses:
- clarity and culture of mission and values
- consistency of systems/policies with achieving social mission and social responsibility
- range and terms of products and services offered, client access / retention (this data is derived from the MFI’s MIS)
- field-level information reports as available (client outreach, quality of services, client awareness).
The rating analysis:
- highlights strengths or weaknesses related to governance, management and MIS
- analyses existing reporting systems, quality of data and use of information available, and
- captures key data as evidence to profile depth of outreach, market segmentation and client
feedback on quality of services.
For an example of a social rating conducted by M-CRIL, see the document: Social Rating of Negros Women for Tomorrow Foundation (NWTF), Philippines
