Grameen-Jameel is the first social business in the Arab World committed to the alleviation of poverty. It supports the microfinance sector in MENA and had reached over 1.4M clients by the end of June 2011 through partner microfinance institutions. Grameen-Jameel was established in 2003 and incorporated in 2007 as a joint venture between Grameen Foundation and ALJ Foundation, a subsidiary of Abdul Latif Jameel Group. The company alleviates poverty by providing technical and financial assistance to microfinance institutions. Grameen-Jameel's mission is to enhance the microfinance sector’s ability to extend its outreach and impact on the poor, especially women, by providing catalytic financial & non-financial products and services to microfinance institutions in the Middle East and Nort Africa (MENA) region.
