UMCOR is the humanitarian relief and development agency of the United Methodist Church, a worldwide denomination. Compelled by Christ, UMCOR responds to natural or human made disasters—those interruptions of such magnitude that they overwhelm a community's ability to recover on its own. When there is a need to establish a long-term presence overseas, UMCOR does that through its non-governmental organization which sets up field offices. They provide a center for establishing emergency response as well as long-term relief and transitional development to assist entire communities in the wake of natural and civil disasters.

UMCOR's NGO unit provides humanitarian relief and transitional development through established UMCOR offices overseas. Currently, there are 11 field offices established in Africa, Asia, the Caribbean, and Europe that use integrated programs help communities ravaged by natural and human made disasters develop their means, opportunities, and inherent capacities to overcome challenges.
