Deutsche Gesellschaft für Technische Zusammenarbeit (GTZ) GmbH is a federally owned international cooperation enterprise for sustainable development which supports the German Government in achieving its development-policy objectives. It supports microfinance operations in over 40 countries, providing technical assistance to MFIs and helping them become financially, legally and institutionally viable financial intermediaries. Additionally, it offers support for financial sector reform, assisting countries and their microfinance supervisory authorities (e.g. central banks) to develop more effective financial systems through legislation on regulation and supervision.
GTZ is active in over 130 countries in Africa, Asia, Latin America, Eastern Europe and the Commonwealth of Independent States, and has offices in 87 countries. It is headquartered in Eschborn (near Frankfurt am Main). GTZ is a member of CGAP.
