Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA) is Canada's lead agency for development assistance with an aim to: 

  • Manage Canada's support and resources effectively and accountably to achieve meaningful, sustainable results;
  • Engage in policy development in Canada and internationally, enabling Canada's effort to realize its development objectives.

CIDA's mandate is to support sustainable development in developing countries in order to reduce poverty. Its microfinance work is focused on promoting entrepreneurship, creating an enabling environment for doing business, and helping entrepreneurs connect to new markets. It also supports the development of the infrastructure (e.g. credit bureaus) necessary to support the expansion of this sector. CIDA is a member of CGAP.
