BMTs are Islamic savings and loans cooperatives in Indonesia that are registered with the Ministry of Cooperatives, Small and Medium Enterprises. They are regulated by the Cooperatives Act. There are more than 3200 BMTs in Indonesia that mobilize savings and provide loans to members. The majority of BMTs are located in rural areas and provide agricultural financing.
