Belgian Platform for Community Health Insurance/Mutual Health Organisations (MASMUT) was started in 2004 by a group of Belgian organizations active in the field of health care in low income countries. The group comprises non-governmental, mutual health organizations, and research and development institutions. Its mission is "to promote the effectiveness of community health insurance and mutual health organizations in the South through collaboration among member organizations." Specific objectives include:
- Create a forum for exchange of information and discussion
- Exploit member organizations' expertise to improve support to partners in the South
- Make the results of projects and research available to a wider public
- Contribute to capacity building concerning community health insurance in the South
- Stimulate collaboration between Belgian and international experts.
The group's activities include research that explores the interface between microfinance and community health insurance.
