Bankomunales are small, informal, self-supporting groups that, much like self help groups, collect capital from their members and lend it to others in the group. These groups are self managed and are usually comprised of 10-15 members. Members contribute capital which is then invested in a business. They acquire shares of the organization and receive a return on their investment. FUNDEF, an NGO based in Venezuela, has been very actively promoting and providing technical assistance to Bankomunales.
