The Bank of Tanzania (BOT) is the central bank of Tanzania. BOT has the overall responsibility of coordinating the implementation of the country's national microfinance policy. As the government's leading microfinance arm, it has the following responsibilities:
- Develop a policy, legal and regulatory framework;
- Guide the development of the sector;
- Coordinate government intervention and interface with other stakeholders in the field;
- Monitor performance of the sector; and
- Disseminate relevant information to the public.
The Bank keeps the public informed of key developments and pertinent issues in the sector via a special website that it has developed: http://www.bot-tz.org/MFI.
