ActionAid is an international anti-poverty nonprofit agency whose aim is to fight poverty worldwide. Formed in 1972, for over 30 years it has been growing and has helped over 13 million of the world's poorest and most disadvantaged people in 42 countries worldwide. In all its country programs, it works with local partners to make the most of their knowledge and experience.
It has affiliates or country programs in 43 countries around the world (Africa, Asia, the Americas and Western Europe) and employs about 2000 (mostly national) staff. Its largest investment in a single country is India with a 2005 budget of 21m Euro, followed by Kenya with 13m and Ethiopia and Ghana with just over 7.5m.
