Jamii Bora Trust was established in 1999 at the initiative of 50 street beggar families in Nairobi and was registered as a charitable Trust in Kenya on 22 November 1999. It is headquartered in Nairobi and has brances all over Kenya. Their mission is to assist their members to get out of poverty and build a better life for their families.

Jamii Bora Finance is the main programme of the Trust. Their members can open savings accounts and can borrow twice as much as they have saved. It offers several types of loans for micro-businesses, school fees, health and housing. It has been experimenting with mobile point-of-sale devices, magnetic-stripe cards and fingerprint authentication to take its remote branches online. Besides, Jamii Bora’s Business Academy also offers three level courses in Business Studies, Home Economics, Management & Leadership, Basic Computer skills and Literacy.
