Hatton National Bank (HNB) is a commercial bank in Sri Lanka that also has a strong development banking focus that includes running programs for SMEs, rural agricultural enterprises, the microfinance sector, youth savings and financial literacy. The bank has been an active 'Participating Credit Institution' for several credit lines funded by the ADB, World Bank, IFAD, and JBIC, as well as concessionary credit lines introduced by the Government of Sri Lanka. It runs its own microfinance program known as 'Gami Pubuduwa' (Village Awakening) with the goal of engaging the rural community in regeneration activities by indentifying strengths, weaknesses and resources available. The program extends financial services including loans, savings, money transfer services and microinsurance to village communities. HBD also extends financial services to youth through its youth savings accounts and through their Barefoot Bankers named 'Gami Pubuduwa Upadeshaka' (Village Awakening Advisors) who steer the financial literacy programs and act as a mentors to budding entrepreneurs.
