African Microfinance Transparency Forum (AMT)
Type: Network, NGO (International)
Headquarters: Luxembourg
Regions of Operation: Middle East and North Africa, Sub-Saharan Africa

The purpose of AMT is to promote transparency within the African microfinance sector and to strengthen the performance of African MFIs. AMT provides a permanent source of information on the African rating market through 3 different channels:

  • Awareness raising workshops: AMT organizes 2 awareness raising workshops in Africa each year on the importance of being rated;
  • Grievance panel and code of conduct: AMT acts as an arbitrator to resolve any potential conflict that may arise between MFIs and rating agencies through its grievance panel. It has further implemented a rating agency code of conduct which each agency must abide by;
  • Investor's fair: Every 12 – 18 months, AMT hosts a microfinance investor’s fair in Africa to bring together rated MFIs with resource/fund providers (investment funds, banks etc.).
