Established in 1999 by Michael and Susan Dell, the foundation is focused on improving education and children’s health globally. Additionally, it focuses on promoting family economic stability by working to increase the number of high-caliber Microfinance Institutions (MFI) in urban communities and the diversity of their services including micro-loans; credit, transfer and savings services; micro-insurance; and financing for low-cost housing. The foundation is also supporting global initiatives for the roll-out of the Progress Out of Poverty Index (PPI), creating a common system to measure social progress and evaluate the effectiveness of microfinance.
