Enumerating standards for PPI use and reporting

This BASIC PPI Standards of Use document enumerates the minimum standards for appropriate PPI use and reporting.

The Standards of Use checklist requires PPI users to agree or disagree with 19 statements under 5 categories. Each category scrutinizes a particular aspect of PPI use as follows:

  • Intent, which examines the purpose for which PPI will be used and whether the Board recognizes the use of PPI, and checks if there is a written action plan in place;
  • Collection, which determines whether the organization follows the original, latest country-specific PPI;
  • Process, which analyzes the process for data storage and quality control of data collection;
  • Training, which ensures that the field staff involved in survey process understand the precise meaning of questions and responses, and that data entry staff are appropriately trained;
  • Reporting, which determines whether reporting is done accurately and with appropriate frequency, and whether the results indicate poverty lines, date of collection etc.

The document states that if an organization does not meet any of the above standards during validation, it will have 3 months to meet these standards by providing the required documentation.
