SKS IPO Opens Today to Mixed Reaction from the Industry A debate regarding the place of IPOs in the field of microfinance continues as the SKS IPO opened on July 28. One on side, Muhammad Yunus, Nobel Prize winner and founder of Bangladesh's Grameen Bank, has the viewpoint that there is no place for big profits and giant IPOs in microlending. On the other side, Vikram Akula, founder of SKS Microfinance Ltd., says high-profits and capital markets are the only way to raise enough money to reach the billions of poor that have no easy access to microfinance.
