Insurance Regulatory Authority of Kenya to Survey Microinsurance Market The Insurance Regulatory Authority (IRA) of Kenya has commissioned a new landscape survey of the microinsurance market in Kenya to establish challenges that could hinder its full implementation in the market. IRA said that findings from the research will be presented to insurance stakeholders in April, 2010 for debate. IRA’s intention is to facilitate rapid penetration of microinsurance in Kenya. Speaking during a workshop called by the Association of Kenya Insurers (AKI), IRA Chief Executive Officer, Sammy Makove said the results of the study will also help insurance stakeholders to decide whether to adopt the Indian-like model where a separate regulation was put in place to cover microinsurance or to pursue further amendments to the Insurance Act.
