Philippines: Central Bank Allows All Banks to Participate in Micro-Agri Loan Program A program-specific lending scheme that in the past was reserved for particular members of the Rural Bankers Association of the Philippines-Microenterprise Access to Banking Services (RBAP-MABS) is now available to all banks. This means banks can have their micro-agri loans recognized by the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) as part of the larger microfinance program. The MABS program seeks to enable micro entrepreneurs to have access to micro credit in a financial sense and is funded by foreign donors. BSP recognition is important for the banks because only duly recognized microfinance lenders enjoy particular regulatory privileges.
