Helping MFIs identify their information system needs

This Information Systems for Microfinance Institutions course is one of the four courses in the Operational Management Curriculum.

Many MFIs face serious challenges in identifying their information needs and installing appropriate systems to meet those needs. This four-day course provides MFI managers with practical guidelines for developing and implementing MFI information systems.

By working through a case study, participants learn to use a framework that allows them to conceptualize, assess, design, develop, implement, roll out and maintain information systems for their MFIs. The course uses trainer instructions, overheads, handouts, case studies and reference materials to help participants in:

  • Understanding data, information and systems;
  • Preparing to implement an information system;
  • Conducting needs analysis;
  • Determining feasibility and assessing alternatives in implementing an information system;
  • Conducting due diligence;
  • Making software and vendor recommendations;
  • Implementing the information system;
  • Ensuring system optimization and maintenance.
