Guiding MFI managers through strategic and operational planning

This course is one of the four courses in the Operational Management Curriculum.

The course includes sessions on defining institutional mission, goals and objectives, understanding clients and markets, carrying out environmental and institutional assessments and designing a strategy.

Using trainer instructions, overheads, handouts, case studies and reference materials, the course trains participants to:

  • Understand the concept of business planning and link it to planning for microfinance;
  • Write a mission statement, define markets and clients for microfinance and develop strategies for planning.

Identify environmental opportunities and threats, institutional strengths and weaknesses, and objectives and activities for LEDA, a fictional MFI.
