1. What is the Microfinance Gateway library?

The Gateway library holds over 9,000 English-language documents. It is the largest collection of online resources dedicated to a broad array of topics related to microfinance and financial inclusion. The library is updated on a regular basis and we invite you to submit your publications. The French, Spanish, and Arabic Gateway sites also house extensive libraries. Collectively the Gateway family of sites contains over 12,000 documents.

2. How do I find what I'm looking for?
Library documents are categorized according to topic, country, and region. There are two ways to search for resources in the library:

  • Library Search Box: search by keyword, date of publication, country, region, topic, document type, and rating.
  • Advanced Library Search: further narrow your search by limiting keyword searches to the title, author, abstract, and publisher field.

3. Can I review and rate a library document?
Yes! Review and rating tools allow you to share your opinion on a publication by writing a review and providing a rating of 1 to 5 stars. Please respect our Comment Policy and read our Terms and Conditions before contributing a comment.

4. How do I submit a library document?
Submitting a document is a quick and easy process. Just read our editorial guidelines and then complete this form. The size of the document should not exceed 5 MB. Please read carefully the Gateway’s editorial guidelines for library submissions. By submitting a document, you agree to the Gateway’s Terms and Conditions.

5. What resources can be contributed to the library?
The Gateway is only open to content that is freely available to the public. We accept a range of document types, including articles, books, case studies, guidebooks, operational tools and manuals, papers, presentations, toolkits, and web publications. All documents should be in a format that can easily stand on its own as a resource. For example, a presentation made at a conference may be included if the content in the document stands alone without explanation.

6. I am not affiliated with an institution or organization. May I still submit my paper to the library?
We welcome submissions, regardless of affiliation. However, all documents must meet the Gateway's editorial guidelines. Documents submitted by individuals are subject to the following criteria:

  • The document must include a short bio of the author in a format that allows the reader to easily assess the author's qualifications.
  • Citations and references must be included.
  • Documents are subject to review by plagiarism detection software. The Gateway follows strict rules on plagiarism and reserves the right to reject a document that might be disputed on the grounds of plagiarism.

7. I'm a student. Can I submit a paper I wrote to be published in the library?
The Microfinance Gateway invites thesis documents at the masters and PhD levels only. A university contact, such as the thesis advisor, is required to verify a student’s affiliation, and that the content is original. Student submissions are considered individual submissions and are subject to the requirements described above.

8. Will you use the abstract I submit?
All Microfinance Gateway abstracts follow a consistent form and style in line with set editorial guidelines. Information submitted by the author is often used within the final abstract, which will be modified in accordance with the website’s editorial policies. If you think there are any errors in the final abstract posted, please contact us at webmaster@microfinancegateway.org.

9. When will my library document appear on the site?
Please allow 5-7 working days for your document to be reviewed and posted. All content is subject to approval before posting. You will receive notification with a link to your publication on the Microfinance Gateway once it has been posted to the site. If the publication does not meet our guidelines, a notification will be e-mailed to you.

10. The publication I submitted is available in more than one language. May I contribute all versions to the library?
Please only submit English-language publications to the English Gateway. We ask that you separately submit French, Spanish, and Arabic publications to those libraries.

11. Will the Gateway library provide a PDF of my document or will you link to the document on my website?
Publications submitted by users will be posted as PDF documents. However, if you prefer that we only include a hyperlink to the document on your site, please indicate this in the submission form.

12. I wrote a document in 2009 but I noticed it’s not in your library. Can I add it?
The Gateway accepts publications from 2010 and later. Documents published prior to 2010 may be accepted on a case-by-case basis. Please contact us at webmaster@microfinancegateway.org.

13. What is the Microfinance Gateway's copyright policy?
The Microfinance Gateway is committed to adhering to all applicable laws regarding intellectual property. As a public good made available to the microfinance community at large, all information presented on the Gateway is for informational purposes only. Any content submitted to the site will be treated as non-confidential and non-proprietary. Please read our Terms and Conditions for more information on our copyright policy.
