The Making Finance Work for Africa Partnership (MFW4A) was established by the then G8 in the 2007 Heiligendamm Declaration. The objective of the Partnership is to facilitate a scale-up in support for financial sector development in Africa, overcome fragmentation and increase aid efficiency by addressing key constraints to efficient development partner support within country-owned development plans.
The role of the Partnership stems from the recognition that advancing financial sector development in Africa requires collaboration between African Governments, development partners, the private sector and other stakeholders. MFW4A provides a platform for joint action, dissemination of ideas and coordination amongst donors and African financial sector stakeholders to address African priorities on financial sector development issues.
About the Job:
The Associate Research Officer will be part of the Knowledge Management Team and will report to the Knowledge Manager. S/he will be responsible for conducting research on developments in the African financial sector, providing content for the Partnership’s website and newsletters, as well as writing briefs on selected topics as requested by the Knowledge Manager or the Partnership Coordinator.
Tasks and Responsibilities:
Conduct a weekly review of new research, policy papers, and other documents published on MFW4A Partners’ websites, and identify and select relevant materials and information for the Partnership’s website;
In coordination with the rest of the MFW4A Team, develop content for selected sections of the Partnership’s website, including, but not limited to, updating country and thematic data and the donor projects database collecting data, and compiling financial sector development indicators;
Compile a weekly press digest on financial sector development news across Africa for distribution to Partnership members;
Identify daily relevant articles on financial sector development in Africa to be covered by the news provider;
In coordination with the rest of the Knowledge Management Team, evaluate and propose new features for the Partnership website;
In coordination with the rest of the MFW4A team, assist with preparation and organization of Partnership Forum and ad hoc conferences and workshops;
Conduct background research for the preparation of the MFW4A Knowledge Products such as thematic and information briefs;
In coordination with the rest of the Knowledge Management Team, write the content for the Partnership newsletter;
Prepare analytical notes the financial sector.
Master Degree in Economics, Finance, Business Administration or related field;
A minimum of 2 years of relevant experience with a strong emphasis on financial sector development issues;
Good research and analytical skills and technical competence in finance;
Familiarity with current issues in relation to financial sector development and with project cycle activities and policy formulation in the financial sector;
Knowledge and understanding of the activities, policies and procedures of multilateral and bilateral institutions. Prior work experience in Africa, particularly in financial institution, research or consulting will be an advantage;
Excellent communication and writing skills, including the ability to prepare reports and analysis, and make presentations;
Familiarity with standard software applications and able to communicate and write effectively in French and English.
